That special stud of the month.
Written by RoseThornStables

El Diablo. by thunderjam1992  El Diablo- a name everyone in the racing side of HARPG knows all too well. This solid black stallion with bright blue eyes first appeared in October of 2009, and it was made clear from the beginning that this was a special horse for thunderjam1992:

"Every true horse-fan has that perfect imaginary horse in their mind that stems from great fantasizing and wishing as children. Usually these imaginary horses are bold and beautiful, noble and perfect.
Mine was named Thunderjam, and he was a giant, ebon-colored racehorse. As a young girl, Thunderjam was with me wherever I went. He was talking to me on the playground, in the car, while I was trying to fall asleep... Always there, sometimes comforting, sometimes annoying. But I loved him. ;P
As I got older, Thunderjam morphed into a giant blue unicorn stallion, though if you look closely, those ebon traits are still there (eyes, mane, tail, hooves, etc). And thus, El Diablo was born in TJ's place.
In a way, El Diablo is the original Thunderjam.
He's big and black and beautiful and mean to everyone but me... and totally clichèd. And I love it. :XD:
All of the following background and story has been created and edited through years of girly childhood fantasies. As I grew older, so did he. And as I grew older and I lost that happy-happy joy-joy innocence all children have, so did his story.
However, even with all his flaws and ugliness, he's mine. This is my perfect horse."

It wasn't long before he became that special horse for many others. His bloodline carried legendary names like Native Dancer, War Admiral, and the incredible Man O' War. His birth was tragic, but the young colt didn't let being orphaned stop him from growing into the giant monster. As soon as he hit the track, it was obvious he had the love- and serious talent- for running. Sure, he zigzagged and despised having a rider, but he won some of the biggest juvenile stakes, on turf and dirt, before an injury took him off the Derby Trail. Not letting a little fractured bone stop him, he powered back onto the racing scene for the Preakness and lost to his grey half brother in what would be the beginning of a rivalry reminiscent of Affirmed and Alydar or Sunday Silence and Easy Goer. He took the Belmont, keeping Acute from winning the Triple Crown. The two kept battling through their three year old year, trading victories, and Acute snagged the Eclipse Award for that year. His four year old year saw Dee finding his ultimate weakness- flying on a plane. It also saw the end of his and Acute's back and forth wins, as El Diablo took two straight wins over the grey. His racing career came to an end after another thrilling duel between the rivals that saw the black behemoth win. His sire career was well off, with 65 in-game foals listed on his reference, and spreading his influence to the track even today. In June of 2011, the large black Thoroughbred who had stolen everyone's hearts was put down at the age of 22 after injuring himself during one of his tantrums.

Lakewood's Kiwi by Tattered-Dreams  Winner of the 2013 Kaimanawa-Challenge, Kiwi has stolen the hearts of all who have read her story. Born a wild horse from New Zealand, Kiwi's story is amazingly illustrated. Tattered-Dreams shows all the hardships and joys of training a wild horse. Kiwi is by no means perfect, and neither is her rider, but she shows a lot more character depth and the real bond between a rider and a horse. All her stories are beautifully illustrated, and have many written pieces that help the story and its progression. We also get to see the inside life of this horse and her rider, rather than many show images, something that is rare but highly treasured in HARPG! Kiwi goes to show that a horse doesn't need to be a star in shows to be truly inspirational.

RCS Silent Knight by Spotty001  Please welcome our gelding of the month, RCS Silent Knight!  This fabulous black fellow is a Timekin and a very rare one for the breed at that!  He's the only black genotype and phenotype of his kind, and he's definitely proven that he has the showing spark.  Owned by Spotty001, this gelding has competed in Dressage and Halter, but tends to do very well in the Sport of Elegance.  With several 2nds, he's also training to compete in the AUSe-Olympics this year.  This fantasy horse is definitely one to watch out for!

:thumb474242744: Flint Static - Rescue Reference by Dencin Flint's Rescue Story by Dencin - "Flint Static, barn name Flint, is a seven year old Thoroughbred crossed with an Appaloosa. He has been trained in jumping since he was two. He was at the top of his game and having yet to lose a competition. Flint was on the fast track to getting out of the state championships and starting in the regional shows. He was pegged for an Olympic hopeful by the time he would be eleven. However at his last qualifying competition to break into the regional shows he had a terrible accident on the second to the last jump. Other than that it was a very clean ride. Something was off when the stallion turned into the jump, being as well trained as he was he chose to try and jump the fence rather than stop. He wound up with lacerations to his chest, face, rump, and stomach and had been in recovery for well over a month. After his wounds had scarred over he wasn't the same horse. Aggression had taken him over and he would attack without the slightest bit of warning. The stable that used to own him was facing too many lawsuits to keep the stallion and were going to put him down until the owners of Sanders Hollow took him in to try and save his life. Now he's there and progress is slow because his trust is really hard to earn right now, especially when he doesn't want anything to do with humans. Hopefully when he gets healed and his aggression resolved then he will be re-homed." I'd like to find out what happens to Flint! Follow Flint's story at Sanders Hollow and keep an eye out for opportunities to adopt him in the future. - oxpecker

Why I think reclaims are a shitty thing to do......and my proposal for a better alternative.
First of all, I just want to say that yesterday was my last day of work for the summer so now I have a month off til school starts up.  We might go on a family trip, and I'll still be doing social things and yard work and such, but I should have a looot more time to draw now than I otherwise have had lately.  So expect some pictures soonish hopefully.
Now, concerning the title of this journal.
It's a common rule in HARPG breeding journals- "I will reclaim the foal if it isn't active according to X criteria", some variant to that effect.  Everyone would like their horses' foals to be active, whether it be because we love our characters and want to see their kids loved, or because active foals means more points in various registries.  So far, so good.
But here's the problem.  Parent Owner doesn't think the foal is active enough.  No doubt the foal owner has plenty of horses to
An article discussing a pretty controversial aspect of HaRPG, RECLAIMS.  Written by Helsinge and featuring discussion and alternatives.  Definitely worth looking at!

Have a storyline or roleplay you want featured here? Or maybe an epic idea for fellow players?  Or some juicy info on whatever?  Send us at HARPG-Newsletter a Note titled Headlines with the links to the art, stories or journals and we'll see about getting it up!

Hollow Grove Livery Stables, located in the small countryside town of Toradh, Ireland, is founded mainly on rescues and will continue to be a haven to nearly any desperate horse case that comes around. Starting with eleven horses, all of which had their own story (some more interesting than others), Hollow Grove hopes to achieve great things in both breeding and in Western competitions, showing that even forgotten horses have some potential.
Hollow Grove also offers riding lessons and trail rides for those who love horses but aren't into the competitive scene. Trail riding will always be at the heart of the organization, for that was how Hollow Grove initially started as a business.

The Zlesdin/Zdarloch Stables Opening Show was a ginormous success this summer! Riders and horses arrived to strut their stuff in classes like Halter, Dressage, Showjumping and the main event, Endurance.  With early 40 contestants, this show has firmly cemented HaRPG newcomer Zoubstance into the community!  First place for Halter was won by Nukinit with her feisty black mare Art of War.  Dressage was claimed by the fantastic WS Ambassador owned by Tigra1988; fresh out of retirement, this stallion still has the moves.  Showjumping gold went to Lone-Onyx-Stardust and her black stallion Missing Shadow.  The blue ribbon for Endurance went to the one and only cyprussian and her buckskin mare Nattvik's Katyusha.  A fantastic set of talents were shown here at the Zlesdin/Zdarloch Stables Opening Show, and the Newsletter sends a giant congrazzles to the players and host!
